MidWeek Tease o7.18.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! And as always, thank you to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

I'm continuing on with my WIP and where I left off last week, where Charlotte is freaking out about her date. Just as some background, Charlotte works at the art museum, but her other life in Los Angeles, she was a fire performance artist and an aerial silks artist.

Amie got up and made her way to the stairs that led upstairs to the backdoor of her apartment. “I’ll see you in the morning...or maybe I won’t. Maybe you won’t come home tonight.”
I stuck my tongue out at her as she quickly disappeared inside. I made my way to the silks, being in the air always balanced me, too. I was thankful for the warmer than usual September weather, so the silks could be hanging longer. Pretty soon they would have to be stored away for the winter, I liked not having to go to the aerial studio to practice. I wasn’t wearing the ideal outfit for practicing, but I really wasn’t going for perfect form, I just needed to fly to calm my heart from beating out of my chest.
Why the hell was I feeling like this?

As I balanced my weight between the silks and tried to focus on centering myself to calm down, I heard a car pull up. No doubt Mr. Pierce’s shiny black Lexus. I flipped down the silks, landing my feet on the crash mat, as gracefully as I could being in boots. I ran over and checked my appearance quickly in the reflection of my bedroom window, pulling the hood up, and went to the front gate. Here we go…

He was walking up as I got to the gate.
“Hey.” I smiled, as I walked out of the gate and shut it. He was dressed all in black, again, cargo pants and a button up dress shirt that was un-tucked...and eyeliner.
He smiled and his eyes seemed to light up. “Hey.”
He already was as intoxicating as last night. He gave me a hug, I was hoping he couldn’t feel my heart or hear it beating against my chest. I wanted to not ever let go of him.
“You look just as stunning as last night.” He said in my ear.
“Thank you.” I replied, “I’m not under dressed am I?”
“Absolutely not. I would have told you to dress up, if I had something fancy to go to. There will be those nights, but not tonight.”
He had made several references to future dates together since we had met, and yes, I had made one, but every time he did, it made me scream inside. This one, I wasn’t thrilled about fancy engagements but the fact that he wanted to take me and be with me, made me excited.
“These are for you.” He said, as he held out a bouquet of dark red and black roses. I was so busy staring at him that I never noticed he was carrying flowers.
“They’re so beautiful, thank you.” I said as I took them from him and smelled them.
“They match you perfectly.” He commented.
As I smiled, he held out his arm, “Shall we go?”
I wrapped my arm around his, holding the flowers in the other. He led me to the car, opening the door for me.

WeWriWa o7.15.18

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday!

We continue on where we left off last week, where Karlea admitted to Armani that he was right...Jake left her because he didn't want to be with her for an eternity...

"Truth hurts, doesn't it?" Armani replied. "At least you came to your senses."
Karlea stared at him, her eyes becoming daggers through him. She took a few steps, closing the gap between them.
With a certainty that Armani had not ever heard from her, she said while poking him hard in the chest, "We'll do this, but I will NOT make it easy for you."

Armani's lips curled into a devilish smile. "From what I know of you, I wouldn't expect anything less, love."
The same devilish grin creeping across her face.

I apologize to everyone. I tried to get to everyone's snippets and lost track of the week. I also lost track of which ones I read/commented on, I was all super confused. *facepalm* So, I will try again this week.

MidWeek Tease o7.11.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! Thanks to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

We continue where we left off last week, this time we are in a new chapter, in Charlotte's point of view. She is getting ready for her anticipated date with the handsome Mr. Pierce...
“Do I look okay?” I asked my upstairs neighbor, Amie, as we sat out on the patio together. It was an unusually warm night for September in the northeast. I had no idea what Mr. Pierce and I would be doing for our date. I was wearing my usual black short shorts, and only because it was so warm, I wore them without leggings or fishnets underneath, just black calf high leg warmers with my boots, a black tank top with my flame resistant performance black halter pullover hooded jacket. This was my usual when I wasn’t working at the museum. I didn’t know if I was underdressed for a date with him.
“You look like....you.” She replied.
“I think Mr. richly handsome wine guy would have told you to dress up if it was somewhere fancy.” She added.
“But what if fancy is so his norm that he doesn’t think to tell me to dress up?”
“True. But where’s your attitude, Char? The sassy Char I know, would say fuck it. You really like this guy, don’t you?”
“I don’t know. I’m really drawn to him and not for his money... I wish that could be left out of the equation.” I replied.
“So, what do you want with him?”
“I don’t know. Not a romantic all-serious relationship, I’m not good with those.”
Amie laughed, “They always happen when you least expect it.”
I groaned.
“He only knows me from the museum, he probably has this certain idea of me. Ugh...I am so not of his stature.”
“Char, you’re freaking out.” Amie said, plainly.
“What if he has some weird, gross fetish --”
“Oh, please, like some of the fetishes you have aren’t crazy.”
“Well, I mean like golden showers and stuff. So, not my thing. I mean he’s too perfect, there’s got to be some hidden secret that’s a total turn off.”
“Go light some fire, that will settle you.”
Amie referring to me being a fire performance artist. I was always out here at night practicing some aspect of fire arts.
“No, I don’t want to go on a date smelling like a bonfire. He’ll probably think I don’t actually live in this house and just squat outside in a tent.”
"Ughhh...Charlotte, stop. freaking. out." She replied.

WeWriWa o7.o8.18

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday!

We continue on where we left off last week. Last week, Karlea hung up on Jake and didn't tell him where she was.

"You didn't tell him where you were, you hung up instead. I'm impressed." Armani commented.
Karlea fought back her tears and boldly said, "It didn't feel right. Your blood and my stupid innate loyalty to it, pulled me away."
She thought about Jake, anger taking over. "You're right, though, he left me. He walked away. All because in the end, deep down he didn't want to turn me, after everything we had been through together. He didn't want to spend eternity with me."

Vampire Friday o7.o6.18

Welcome to Vampire Friday, my favorite day of the week!

We continue on right where we left off last time, where Jake sensed Reed.
(Some background because I have been absent from this blog hop for a while - Reed is one of the first & oldest vampires. He made Vaughn, and Vaughn then made Jake, so there's a bit of history between them all. Matt is Karlea's boss at the nightclub.)

Reed
"Go be with Karlea. I'll stall Reed." Matt said.
Jake shook his head, feeling Reed's presence. "He's already inside." Jake said, quietly with no emotion.
Jake closed his eyes and then turned around. Reed was sitting at the bar facing them. It had been at least a century since he had seen Reed. He looked good, as always, dressed in the latest fashions, looking like a young, wealthy CEO in his thirties. His hair dark brown and short. His eyes, where the brightest blue-grey, that mesmerized most humans, and could stare through anyone, human or not. Right now, they were staring through him.
"I was wondering when I would see you again, grand dad." Jake sarcastically said.
Reed snarled, "I hate when you call me that."

"Why I do it."
"You are no grand progeny of mine, Jake," Reed replied, "and neither is Vaughn. Where is he anyway, I'm surprised he's not attached to your hip?"
Reed nodded his head.
"I don't know, Reed, I think he's busy draining his current interns." Jake looked behind him to see that he and Matt where surrounded by Reed's men. With another nod from Reed, a few of his men scattered, to round up the human bartenders, DJ, and security team; Reed's men using compulsion to keep them quiet. The rest of the security team that were not human, ended up with paralyzing stakes in them.
"That girl, though," Reed continued, "she may have potential. She might make a good progeny of mine. Her blood is not only sweet, but strong, even though it was cold. I had a taste in the alley the other night, off the blade that stabbed her. I could only imagine what it tastes like warm."
Reed smiled, "So, where is she, Jake? I know she's here. I'm not going to harm her...yet. I have a few questions I need to ask her regarding a business matter."
"Go to hell, Reed." Jake replied.
Reed shook his head, "You're better off calling her because it isn't going to be so pretty if I have to find her."
Jake looked over at Matt.
"Really Jake? The two of you are going to fight me, with all my men surrounding you?"

Jake just stared at Reed, a low growl escaping him.

Midweek Tease o7.o4.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! Thanks to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

We continue where left off last week, where Anton is preparing for his date with Charlotte.
I was taking a big risk tonight, in all my centuries I have never gotten this close to a human woman and been so consumed by her. It had been at least a century since I last dated a vampire. We had been together for awhile, only to find how incompatible we really were, her choice of dining on whomever she wanted did not fit my fancy and I couldn’t be the type of vampire she wanted me to be.  I tried, letting my past losses fuel me, and I found what the true monster in me could do. Coming to my senses, it scared the hell out of me knowing what I was capable of. Although, it was too late for the city of Paris, it was already a bloodbath. I spent the century learning to survive without killing, only enjoying a few one night stands here and there - all of them walking away in the morning.
Before this, out of boredom and loneliness, I had courted a young woman during the Civil War. Her humanness intrigued me. I wasn’t necessarily in love with her, but she gave me the time of day and her direct attention. We became engaged, and I had this horrible plan that I would turn her the night of our wedding. Only my monster took over and bled her dry, not letting me have the want of turning her, only to listening to her heart stop dead.
Charlotte I was already in love with, but I had no want of turning her or killing her. It was the monster inside that wanted these things. I took an unneeded breath and began to drive, practicing answers in my head and controlling my “breathing”.

WeWriWa o7.o1.18

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday!

We continue on with Karlea's response to Jake...

"Jake, you don't need to worry about me anymore. I'm not yours."
She hung up as Jake yelled her name.

She wasn’t his anymore and wouldn’t be ever again.

She belonged to Armani. Her blood was his and his blood burned deep inside of her. It was pulling her back to him, the strong, unbreakable bond between them. It didn’t feel right going back Jake, what felt right was staying with Armani.

Armani entered back into the room, taking the phone from her shaking hand. She watched as he went out on the patio and threw the phone as far as he could, returning to the bedroom.

Vampire Friday o6.29.18

Welcome to Vampire Friday! I have been M.I.A for far too long.

We continue where I left off months ago. Jake went with Karlea to work to be her own personal bodyguard against Reed.

"Here." Karlea said, as she set a drink of whiskey on the bar in front of Jake. He looked at it and looked at her. "Its the least I can do while you sit there and watch me work."
She smiled and went back to setting up the bar for the night. Jake finished texting Vaugh then watched her dance around behind the bar as she set more bottles of alcohol on the shelves. The DJ already getting his set up running, turning his mixes on lower than club volume, so everyone could still hear each other.
Karlea came back over stocking cherries, limes, lemon, and orange slices.
"Hey Girl, feeling better?" Karlea's co-bartender, Tammy, said as she entered behind the bar.
"Yeah, I was really sick. Couldn't get out of bed." Karlea replied, staring at Jake.
"Here," Tammy said handing her a packaged salad, "Maybe if you ate sometimes, you wouldn't get so sick. You're way too skinny."

"Oh my god, I'm actually so hungry. Thanks, Tammy." Karlea replied as she quickly opened the salad and dug into it.
"I totally forgot to feed you. I'm so sorry." Jake said.
Tammy glared at him for a second. "Ugh, guys." She said before walking off.

Karlea laughed, looking at Jake, "If she only knew."
"You fed me and I totally forgot to feed you." Jake replied, concerned.
"Its okay, I'm sure you're not used to having a human in the house." She replied, quietly.
"True, but I need to have food for you. Also need to get you some B6 supplements, if I'm going to be drinking from you. You need to keep your strength up or you will be unconscious in my bed for most of your existence."
"I don't mind being in your bed, but I'd prefer to be conscious." She shot back with a wicked smile on her face.
She went back to her salad as she finished setting up.

"Karlea," Matt called from the other end of the bar, "here go get the cash drawers from the safe."
He threw his keys with force at her. Karlea attempted to catch them but they hit her hand before landing with a loud thud on the floor.
"Ouch." She yelled, "Damn it, Matt, you know I'm not like you."

Matt chuckled. When Karlea had returned tonight to the club, her, Jake and Matt had to have a talk to let Matt know what was going on. Jake let her in beforehand that Matt was actually a vampire, too, along with some of the security guards. Matt already was aware of something going on between Danny and Luna, that involved dragging Karlea into it. But it wasn't until tonight that he knew that Reed was the one looking for Karlea.

Jake was too busy staring off towards the door sensing something, as Karlea walked off towards Matt's office. Jake looked over at Matt, as Matt, too, caught the scent of vampires. He rushed over to Jake's side as they watched towards the door.
"Reed." Jake said, "I can feel him in my blood."

Oh no, not looking good...

MidWeek Tease o6.27.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! Thanks to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

School is over and I finally have the summer off, which means more regular posts from me. Where we last left off, Anton just fed from his donors so that he didn't lose control on his date with Charlotte. He didn't kill them, they are just unconscious...
I felt much better than I had when I awakened, but tonight was still going to be difficult. I texted Charlotte, apologizing for my lateness, just saying my day didn’t go as planned. I hated lying to her, but coming out and saying I awoke to a hunger I’ve never felt before and if I had texted you, I probably would have hunted you down and killed you, wouldn’t have gone over well. If I was having difficulty lying to her then I had better practice answers in my head, if she asked about my day...or anything really.

I asked her if she would still be interested in going out with me tonight, that I could pick her up in an hour. She replied, yes, and that she understood things happen, that she would see me in an hour. She gave me her address, 72 Girton Place. I now knew where she lived. This was all dangerous ground once again, she would be alone with me in the car, it was like I was setting myself up to lose control. I just wanted to be with her and make as normal to a date as possible.

I got ready and checked on Marlena and Jax. I set out snacks and orange juice, so when they came to they could quickly get their blood sugar levels up. I left them a note, thanking them, and a hefty check, showing my appreciation for what they had done for me. I headed to the parking garage. Once in my car, I took a few minutes to make sure the monster in me was settled. Charlotte only lived five minutes away, it didn’t give me enough time to focus and center myself.

WeWriWa o6.24.18

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday! I have been M.I.A for awhile. School year is over and its summer, I can finally focus on other things.

Where I last left off in this story, Armani was letting Karlea call Jake, but she was having very mixed feelings about calling him. RIght before this snippet below, Karlea was having trouble remembering Jake's phone number, so Armani drank her blood to find out the number for her...
She hit the call button, her feeling getting stronger as the phone rang.
"Karlea?!" Jake answered.
She stayed silent.
"Karlea?!" Jake shouted.
"Jake..." Karlea said quietly.

"Where are you? I can't feel your presence anymore, Vaughn and I have been looking everywhere for you..."

What will Karlea's response be?

MidWeek Tease o6.o6.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! Thanks to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

I have been MIA for months. I work at an elementary school and the school year just got totally crazy, I couldn't keep up with my creative life :( We have 12 days left of the school year and thankfully I have summer off! So, where we last left off in my story here, Anton (a vampire) was feeding from a human donor before his big date with a human woman...
Marlena watched closely as I drank and drank. Jax’s body becoming weak beneath me, but his heart was still okay. I signaled to Marlena that he was fine, not wanting that stake in me. His blood helping to calm the monster. I did as I was trusted and held him, bringing him to the sofa as I still drank. Marlena obviously didn’t trust me and checked the pulse in his wrist, as she sat next to him. She was right in not trusting me. A part of me did want to lie to her, so I could keep drinking to the very end. She was smart in checking his pulse, it would make my decision of whether or not to stop in time, much easier.
His heart started to weaken fast, I pulled away quickly. That was harder than it looked, but I had the image of Charlotte’s eyes in my mind and the thought of how disappointed she would be in me if I had killed.
I looked at Marlena. My eyes and fangs must have scared her this time because she asked, “Am I safe?”
She held tightly onto the stake, awaiting my reply.
“Yes, Jax settled the monster, calmed the craving. I am no more hungry than when you usually come. There is nothing to fear.” I wasn’t lying to her, but my Romanian accent came out thick and I spoke the way the old me spoke back in the 1800’s.
“No offence, Anton, but I don’t trust you, so I’m holding onto this while you feed.”
“I understand. And I’m still only taking it from your wrist.”
Marlena positioned herself comfortably on the sofa. I sat next to her and she made sure she was at an angle where she could stake me if needed. I drank until she started to become weak, wanting to show her I meant no harm, and she could trust me again.
“You can take a bit more, I trust you will stop. I don’t want you to relapse while on your date, that would be awful. Please,” She said, still holding her wrist out to me, “be full.”
I drank more until she was unconscious like Jax. I carefully placed her on Jax, resting on him, so they would come to, together.

I looked at them, wishing I could have the love and companionship they had. They had been through so much together, and their work was so dangerous, but they did it together knowing that one night, one of them may not return. I made a promise to them that in time or if anything happened to either one of them, that I would turn them. I really didn’t want to turn anyone with this gift I had, but they had done so much for me in the twenty years I knew them that if they wanted it, it was the least I could do for them.

MidWeek Tease o4.11.18

Welcome to MidWeek Tease! Thanks to Angelica Dawson for hosting this fun blog hop!

We last left in Anton's point of view, where the hunger was starting to get to him...

At sundown, I awoke to a hunger I had never felt before. I have gone days without feeding, but this hunger was so different, so much more intense. I wanted to feed, kill, and fuck all at the same time. The erotic dreams I had of Charlotte did not help - some that involved her blood, some that involved her sex, and some that mixed both.
I climbed slowly out of bed and dressed. Part of me wanted to stay in bed and keep sleeping, but this hunger would only get worse the longer I went. Jax would be arriving soon. I quickly checked my messages, my business partner saying to check my front door.
I struggled against the extreme hunger as I made my way through the penthouse.
I felt as though I could kill the whole city in a bloodbath.

Outside the front door sat a sealed box. I could hear glass bottles clanging against each other as I carried the box inside. I set it down on the island counter and opened it, pulling out a bottle of Kentucky homemade moonshine. I quickly poured a glass and took as shot. It was so strong. If I had been human the taste wouldn’t have been so awful. I waited for it to have some kind of an effect, but it wasn’t happening. I took a bunch more, but it didn’t do anything to stop the hunger. I needed Jax to get here, but at the same time, I wasn’t sure it was safe for him to be in my presence.
I also needed to text Charlotte and make plans, hopefully I would be able to hold it together enough for tonight. Right now, I couldn’t even hold it together enough to text her. I was afraid I would slip and say something like, I want to tear you apart and feast on your heart. Which is something I did want at this moment. That wouldn’t come off as serial killer-ish or anything to a human.

I set down my phone, the urge to text her was too great. Besides I could barely hold onto my phone, I was shaking so uncontrollably.

A knock on the door, shook me from the horrible killing fantasies I fell into. I opened the door slightly, hiding behind it.
“I don’t know if its safe for you, Jax.” I said.
“That’s why I’m here, too.” Marlena replied. She entered into the penthouse and looked at me.
“Shit, Anton. You look horrible.” She said.
Jax entered. “We’re both here, Anton. You can feed from both of us.”
“Thank you.” I managed.
We made our way over to the sofa. Marlena with a stake in hand, ready in case I couldn’t stop before Jax’s heart did.
Jax loosened the collar on his shirt. As soon as I saw his exposed throat I was on him, sinking my fangs in, before he could even get comfortable on the sofa.
“Jesus, Anton.” He said. He didn’t try to fight me, he instead relaxed his body and let me take what I needed, having faith in me that I would hold him up and not let his body hit the floor when he became too weak.

WeWriWa o4.o8.18

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday! And Happy Spring! I am so excited it is April and winter is (hopefully) behind us.

Where we last left off, Armani brought Karlea a cell phone and was going to let her call Jake, only she couldn't remember his phone number...

Armani walked towards her, he took the phone from her hands. He took her hand and brought her wrist to his mouth. He bit down, taking a few sips before letting go. He dialed the rest of Jake's number and handed her the phone.
"Thanks.." Karlea trailed off as she looked at the number.
It still didn't look familiar to her. She paused before hitting the call button, a strange feeling creeping up in her. Part of her wanted to hit the button and start screaming for Jake into the phone and the other part of her wanted to throw the phone as far as she could.
Armani vanished in front of her, giving her some privacy.

Where we last left off, Armani brought Karlea a cell phone and was going to let her call Jake...
Karlea picked up the phone and looked at it...this could be her freedom. She went to dial...212...her head was such a mess that she couldn't remember Jake's number. She knew it, she memorized as soon as she put the number in her phone...but now she couldn't.
"Is there a problem?"Armani asked.
"I-I can't remember his phone number. I know it, I always have, but my head is such a mess."

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors / Snippet Sunday!

We continue where we left off last week... where Armani disappeared from the room and then brought back a cell phone.

Karlea looked at it. It wasn't hers. Hers was still in Manhattan somewhere. And it wasn't Armani's that she remembered.
"You can call your precious Jake. If he still wants you and comes for you, you are free to go. But his blood can't help you. Hopefully he's smart enough to tell you not to kill yourself."
Karlea picked up the phone and looked at it...this could be her freedom.
